MagT-su
Magnetic Target - Hall Effect Speed Sensor Unit

Using rugged and service proven components, the MagT-su system overcomes the problem of fitting a reliable speed/pulse generator system to a vehicle without modification to axle or motor shafts.

The MagT-su sensor and target combination offers a highly reliable, maintenance free, speed sensor system. The sensor, which is a sealed unit, does not have any moving parts that can wear out; it detects a changing magnetic field produced by a target that self fixes to a rotating steel shaft. Typical applications are as axle end speed sensors (pulse generators) or motor shaft speed sensors. The design of the target and its self fixing nature means that alterations to the motor shaft or wheel axle are not necessary.

The MagT-su range of sensors allows operation with a much wider air gap than is possible with traditional Hall-Effect Speed Sensors. The range is designed for adaptation to meet specific customer requirements and units are available in AS (axle end fitting) or MS (motor shaft fitting) variants.

The sensor electronics are based on well established Hall-Effect sensor technology. The number of pulses per revolution of target is determined by the number of magnets present on the target and the number of Hall sensor chips used in the speed sensor housing. There are options available as to the number of outputs that can be provided, typical applications require 2 speed signal channels so that the speed and direction can be determined. The option of providing a specific direction signal is also common and allows a degree of direction checking to be easily achieved. There is a choice of the final output channel configuration: Push-Pull, TTL or Open Collector.

The sensor housing is made from austenitic stainless steel into which the PCB sensor electronics is encapsulated with an epoxy resin. This gives a robust, sealed assembly suitable for the harsh traction environment.
